Volunteers

Volunteering with the Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)

The CAB's ACT Info Shop's information and referral service is carried out by a team of dedicated Volunteers with support of the Shop Front/Volunteer Coordinator and staff.

The Volunteer role involves attending person to person with Shop Front visitor queries and to calls on the telephone info line.

When thinking about volunteering with the CAB it is good to note that a fair amount of committment is necessary in the role to build up the knowledge required to service the queries. Many of the CAB Volunteers are early retirees and have been involved in the Canberra community for some time either through their work and/or bringing up children in Canberra.

A good general knowledge of Canberra, active listening and problem solving skills, and an ability to communicate with a diversity of people are essential prerequisites for the role.

All our volunteers are supported in a friendly environment and given the appropriate training. All our volunteers and visitors are treated with respect and dignity.

A volunteer shift comprises one 3 hour morning shift per week (10am-1pm), or one 3 hour afternoon shift per week (1pm-4pm).

Recruitment of volunteers is based on the organisation's need; most of our volunteers stay on with the CAB for quite some time.

So if you have a committment to helping others and would like to be involved in an organisation that directly assists people in the ACT, please contact the Volunteer Coordinator on Ph: 6248 7988 or email: info@citizensadvice.org.au.
